My sprinkler system went off, ruining almost everything in my apartment! As I ran out, the only thing I grabbed was the painting of Girr!
Pastel Drawings
Some portrait drawings stand out beautifully on dark backgrounds. To achieve this, I use white pastels on Fabriano’s ‘Black Black’ 140 lb. drawing paper. Its deep, rich black comes from high-quality, lightfast pigments, making it an excellent choice for pastel work. I blend various soft pastels, including Pan Pastels and white Conté crayons, to create sharp contrasts and delicate highlights, bringing depth and drama to each portrait. This combination of materials ensures a striking and lasting finish.
Let’s Get Started!
By providing your information, you're not committing to commissioning a portrait; it simply allows us to reach out to you with more details and options.
Oil on Wood Panels
During the Middle Ages and Renaissance, masters used wood panels as the surface for their oil paintings, long before canvas became popular. Today, wood panels are experiencing a resurgence. They offer a smooth texture that enhances the vibrancy of colors. I use 1-⅝" deep panels with a birch wood face and a smooth poplar cradle, which prevents warping or flexing and ensures easy hanging, providing both durability and aesthetic appeal.
Charcoal Drawings
Charcoal creates bold, expressive marks and deep contrasts, making it perfect for dramatic, almost mystical drawings. I use a range of charcoal types, including compressed and vine charcoal, from brands like Nitram. For each piece, I choose acid-free Arches extra white 100% cotton, 110 lb. drawing paper, and apply a fixative specially designed for charcoal and pastel. To ensure your artwork is displayed properly, we also provide detailed framing instructions with every drawing.
